Gravette 2018 Ambulance Dues

Notices for 2018 ambulance dues have been mailed out for the city of Gravette. All residents living within the Gravette ambulance response district, whether inside or outside the city limits, are encouraged to pay the annual ambulance dues. These cover the cost of paramedic services, whether one has insurance or not. Those who have not paid the dues and require paramedic services will be billed at the standard rate. Membership dues are $25 for an individual or $40 per household. Dues may be paid by mail or in person at Gravette City Hall, 604 First Avenue S.E. Those who have Medicaid or Medicare are already covered and do not need to pay ambulance dues.

Gentry planning annual chamber banquet

The Gentry Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet will be held in late February or early March at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant in Gentry. Nominations are being accepted for Volunteer of the Year, Organization of the Year, Business of the Year, Shining Light Award (for a young person who goes above and beyond to make Gentry a great place to live), and Lifetime Achievement Award (for a longtime Gentry resident -- living or deceased -- who has dedicated his or her life's work to the city and the people of Gentry). Nominations should be sent to Gentry Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734 or emailed to [email protected]. Banquet tickets will be available at the same address for $25 per person.

Library board openings

Three openings exist on the Gravette Municipal Library advisory board. Positions are for five-year terms. Applicants must live in the Gravette School District. The board meets monthly at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month. Anyone interested in being considered for a position on the board should call library supervisor Karen Benson at 479-787-6955, visit the library at 119 Main Street S.E. or Gravette City Hall at 604 First Avenue S.E.

Blood Drive set for Jan. 24 in Gentry

A blood drive has been scheduled in Gentry from 1 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Mckee Foods Bakery Store, at Main Street and Gentry Blvd. While all blood types are urgently needed, there is a more critical need for type O negative, type B negative and type AB. Eligible donors can find a blood donation opportunity and schedule an appointment to donate by using the free Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass are encouraged to help speed up the donation process. RapidPass lets donors complete the pre-donation reading and answer the health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, by visiting redcrossblood.org/rapidpass from the convenience of a mobile device or computer, or through the Blood Donor App.

Free GED prep classes

Free classes to prepare people for taking the GED exam are being offered through May 11 at the Gravette Public Library. Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evenings only, at the library, 119 Main Street S.E. Interested persons may enroll by calling 479-986-6911 or by attending the class. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start anytime and finish when they are ready.

Women's Health seminar set Jan. 25

Dr. Natalie Eiland will present "A New Year, a Healthier You" women's health seminar starting at 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 25, at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital, in Classroom 1. Dr. Eiland will speak about the importance of women's health screenings such as HPV, cervical cancer and mammograms. This seminar is for women of all ages and is free to the community. A free lunch also will be provided.

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry AG church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs, and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies, are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Lions Club meetings set in Gravette, Gentry

The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron club meets third Tuesday of month

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's show grounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at www.tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned at Falling Springs church

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Museum seeks school yearbooks

The Gravette Historical Museum Commission is trying to acquire Gravette High School yearbooks to add to the museum's collection. Annuals are still needed for the years 1977, 1979, 1984, 1998 and 1999. Those willing to donate the above annuals are asked to call museum commissioner Lavon Stark at 479-787-5678.

Decatur VFW Post meets

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
