SPRINGTOWN -- The town council adopted an amended budget and discussed expenses and the placement of street signs at its Dec. 12 meeting at the town hall, according to minutes of the meeting.

Tim Richardson said he had two more street signs to place and the sign project will be complete.

Expenses related to Freedom of Information Acts requests were discussed. It was reported that the current balance for legal expenses related to fulfillment of FOIA requests from Paul Lemke was $1,400, which does not include the additional time of the mayor and town clerk, according to minutes of the meeting.

The 2017 budget was reviewed and discussed. Because the town exceeded the amount budgeted for legal expenses, a revision was required and adopted to make the budget reflect actual 2017 expenditures. A 2018 budget was also reviewed and adopted.

An annual increase notice from Republic Trash was distributed to the council, showing a monthly fee of $15.04 per household, which is billed quarterly. The notice will be included in the public posting area in the town park.

At the council's Jan. 9 meeting, a resolution setting regular council meetings at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month was adopted, draft minutes say.

Alderman David Clark asked about purchasing additional picnic tables for the park and the council, according to draft minutes, agreed to the purchase of two or three tables. Clark will present recommendations for tables at the next meeting.

According to draft minutes, Clark also reported that a second padlock had been broken off the park dumpster, and he had replaced it. If the vandalism continues, the town council intends to take the disposition of the dumpster.

At the request of Alderman Karee Barrett, the February council meeting was rescheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 6.
