SILOAM SPRINGS -- Many took to the Siloam Springs Kayak Park on the Illinois River last week as a place to escape the heat. Some simply sat in the cool waters and others enjoyed the swift waters and rapids.

In addition to those who swam through the rapids, others rode over the waves on rafts and innertubes. A few practiced their kayaking skills, coming from as far away as Tulsa, Okla., to play in the whitewater.

And there were some who used the fast moving water and the wave behind it to surf just a little bit.
