GRAVETTE -- Patrons of the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center enjoyed a Father's Day party and cookout at the center Friday, June 15.

Guests began to arrive about 1o a.m. and found a badminton net set up on the east lawn. Other outdoor games were available and both youngsters and oldsters enjoyed playing horseshoes, lawn darts, croquet, bean-bag baseball and a giant ring toss. Danny, a resident of one of the nearby apartments, set up on the sidewalk and entertained the guests with music on his keyboard and guitar.

Early arrivals were treated to doughnuts, coffee and orange juice; and shortly after 11, Melissa Steele, center director, fired up the charcoal grill. Steele grilled hamburgers and hot dogs to be enjoyed with all the trimmings, potato salad, baked beans, iced tea and desserts of brownies and blueberry cheesecake.

Juanita Whiteside, a regular patron of the center, expressed appreciation on behalf of all in attendance for the celebration. She praised Steele and said, "We've had such a wonderful day. Melissa does a great job. She just does so much for us, always planning fun activities, trips and special meals."

Center patrons regularly participate in field trips (recent trips have been to the Museum of Native American History and the Wild Wilderness Drive-through Safari), shopping trips, meals out at area restaurants and pizza and movie nights. Entertainment is provided by the Old Town String Band on Tuesdays, and line dancing is being held on Thursdays in June.
