CENTERTON -- The Lady Bulldogs' summer off-season basketball practice sessions have yielded positive results as was evident during a recent road trip to Centerton to take on the Life Way Lady Warriors in the gym at First Baptist Church June 21.

During the 2017-18 basketball season, the Lady Bulldogs were able to pull off one of their best finishes in 10 years under head coach Ashley Riggles. Riggles recently resigned as the Lady Bulldogs head coach to take a coaching position with the Rogers School District.

While the program is looking for a new head coach, Tajhe Turner, Riggles' assistant coach, has taken over the Lady Bulldog basketball program.

After weeks of practice before the end of school and the short summer workout, Turner decided it was time for a scrimmage game to see how her team performed in a game setting and, as it happened, Life Way Christian was also looking for a contest.

Decatur took the lead in the opening minute of the first quarter but, less than a minute later, the Lady Warriors managed a short rally to tie the game at five each. That would be as close as Life Way came to getting past Decatur. The Lady Bulldogs pulled out in front and eventually took the win, 56-25.

Leading the way for the Decatur Lady Bulldogs was Abby Tilley, who contributed four three-point shots to the victory, with teammates Destiny Mejia, Paige Vann and Sammie Skaggs leading the scoring drive from inside the lane.

The Lady Bulldogs will be off for the next two weeks and will resume their practice schedule after the Independence Day holiday.
