Gentry girls lose, boys win on soccer field

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers got stung by the visiting Yellowjackets from Westville, Okla., on Friday, losing the soccer match, 4-1.

The Westville girls scored two goals early in the first half and another two in the second half to net the win.

Gentry's only point came in the second half on a goal kicked in by sophomore Katie Ellis.

Gentry also lost, 2-0, in Eureka Springs on Thursday when the Lady Pioneers challenged the Lady Highlanders.

The Thursday game remained scoreless in the first half, but the Highlanders managed two goals in the second period.

BOYS

On the boys' side, Gentry defeated Westville on Friday, 7-1, and Har-Ber on Feb. 26, 2-1.

Against Westville, Gentry put in five goals in the first period and another two in the second period. Scoring for Gentry were senior Kevin Ochoa with two, and one each for freshman Edgar Reyes, junior Giovanny Ramirez, sophomore Holden Wills and senior Khang Yang. Ramon Arguijo, a junior, had seven saves as goalie for the Pioneers.

Against Har-Ber, Gentry was down 1-0 at the end of the period, but second-period goals by Edgar Reyes and Kevin Ochoa, with an assist by sophomore Ben Nelson, gave the Pioneers the win.
