— The Decatur varsity boys' soccer team split a pair of scrimmage matches last week as they prepared for the start of the regular season March 15.

The Life Way contest March 6 presented the Decatur Bulldogs with challenges from the weather. At match time, the wind was gusting up to 45 mph and the wind chills were in the mid-30s by sunset.

Toward the end of the first half, the Bulldogs put the ball past the Warrior goalkeeper for the first point of the contest and the only one in the half. About 15 minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs scored their second point of the night.

Shortly thereafter, Life Way managed to put one past Decatur goalkeeper Roger Hernandez for its only point of the contest.

The Decatur Bulldogs took the scrimmage victory, 2-1, over the Life Way Warriors.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs traveled to Rogers to take on the 7A Mounties junior varsity team in the final scrimmage match of the preseason. The weather conditions for this match were much more favorable for soccer, with temperatures in the mid-50s and the winds light.

The Bulldogs put up a good fight throughout the 80-minute contest, but the Mounties were simply too tough and eventually took the win, 6-0, over Decatur.

The Decatur Bulldogs return to Bulldog Stadium March 15 at 5:30 p.m. for the first conference match of the season when they face the Subiaco Academy Trojans.
