Lions win one lose two

— The Gravette Lions had a busy week with two home games and a road game at Grove, Okla.

First up was a home game at Lion Baseball Field in Gravette March 5 against the Bentonville West Wolverines.

On the mound for the Lions was Hunter Cole, who pitched four innings, throwing 75 times, 47 of which were strikes. Cole allowed 10 hits, nine runs, five earned runs and had five strikeouts. He was replaced by Thomas Tryon who pitched 26 times (21 were strikes), allowing two hits while striking out one.

Gravette could not get anything going throughout the contest as the Wolverines brought home five runs in the second inning and four in the third. Bentonville West took the game in seven innings, 9-0, over the Gravette Lions.

In the Harrison contest, played March 6 in Gravette, the Lions were able to take a seven-point lead over the Goblins and bring home three runs in the first two innings and one in the third. Three runs late in the game by Harrison were not enough and the Gravette Lions took the win, 7-3.

On the mound for that game was Kenton Tajchman, who pitched four innings, allowing two hits, two runs, four walks and throwing six strikeouts. Isaac Sulivan came in for Tajchman in the fifth, allowing one run, two hits and throwing two strikeouts.

In the final game of the week, the Lions traveled to Grove, Okla., March 9, to take on the Ridgerunners in a non-conference game. Gravette got one on the scoreboard early in the first inning to take the early lead. Grove matched with a run of its own in the second to tie the contest. The Ridgerunners scored two more times in the third, taking over the lead, 3-1. Both the Lions and the Ridgerunners scored once more before the contest ended, with Grove taking the victory over Gravette, 4-2, in seven innings.

Jake Carver pitched the entire game for the Lions. He allowed four hits, four runs and one walk while striking out five. Carver threw a total of 89 times during the contest.
