Bulldogs drop first home baseball contest to Leopards

DECATUR -- It was perfect baseball weather March 12 as the Decatur Bulldogs kicked off the 1A conference race and played the first home game of the season against the Alpena Leopards at Edmiston Park in Decatur.

On the mound for Decatur was sophomore Adam Garcia. Garcia pitched the first three innings for the Bulldogs, throwing 73 pitches, allowing six walks and no strikeouts. He was replaced in the fourth inning by Kevin Garcia, who pitched the remainder of the game, throwing 41 pitches, walking two and striking out one.

Alpena scored six runs in the first, seven runs in the second, and one in the third, while the only Decatur score came in the bottom of the fifth. The Alpena Leopards took the conference win over the Decatur Bulldogs, 14-1.

The Decatur baseball team will be on spring break the week of March 19 but returns to action March 27 at 5 p.m when it takes on the Exeter Tigers at Edmiston Park in Decatur.
