Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs end soccer season with losses to Sand Lizards

DECATUR --The Decatur varsity soccer team ended its 2018 season with a shutout loss to the Sand Lizards of Dardanelle April 30.

Before this contest, Decatur was tied with Subiaco for the last spot in this year's district playoffs. Decatur was sitting on the bubble and needed the Trojans to lose in order for the Bulldogs to continue their season. But Subiaco defeated Danville to advance to the tournament and knocked the Bulldogs out of postseason playoffs.

In the Dardanelle match, the Sand Lizards quickly gained control of the match, scoring four goals in the first 40 minutes of the contest. From that point, it was all Dardanelle, which scored two more goals to take a 6-0 lead.

The Bulldogs attacked the goal nine times throughout the match. Jimmy Mendoza and William Barrios led the shooting attempts with two each, followed by Kelvin Moreno, Seth Rich, Jose Rubi, Meliton Hurtado and Jason Gomez, each with one.

Dardanelle had 11 players attacking the net 25 times throughout the match. Jose Sameniengo led the shooting attempts with six. When the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard, the Dardanelle Sand Lizards were up by 6-0.

The Bulldogs ended the 2018 season with 7-6 overall and 5-5 conference records.

The Dardanelle Lady Sand Lizards also shut out the Lady Bulldogs, 10-0, scoring nine goals in the first half and one in the second.

The Decatur girls finished their first season at 0-12 overall and 0-9 in conference play.
