GENTRY -- More than three inches of rain fell on Thursday morning in the Gentry and Siloam Springs area, causing local flooding of streets, roads and many yards.

The thunderstorms and rains moved in about 12 a.m. on Thursday, with numerous heavy downpours continuing until shortly past noon. The result was flooded yards and a number of closed streets and roads in the city. Other streets remained passable, but motorists had to drive through shallow streams of water.

Included in the street closings in Gentry were portions of North Collins Avenue (immediately north of Main Street), Pioneer Lane (just south of the Kansas City Southern Railroad crossing) and Marion Lee Road between Pioneer Lane and Dawn Hill East Road. The portion of Dawn Hill East Road south of Marion Lee Road to Flint Creek remains closed until the bridge damaged more than a year ago by flooding can be repaired.

Many homes were surrounded by water on Thursday until the rains subsided and the drainage ditches were able to allow the flood waters to drain away into creeks and rivers.

An additional round of thunderstorms remained a possibility for late Thursday night.
