GRAVETTE -- Glenn Duffy Elementary School held its 11th annual Buddy Day Friday, May 4. The day was cloudy and cool with a light rain falling much of the day, but all the youngsters had a good time despite the weather.

Each student was paired with a buddy to accompany him during the event. Teams enjoyed a variety of outdoor games on the playground during the field day. Each grade had a scheduled play period of about two hours in the outdoors and an indoor activity period in which they watched a movie in the "Lion Theater" in the gym.

Outdoor events at approximately 20 stations included wagon races, a football toss, putt-putt golf, water-gun and pool-noodle battles, hopper ball, sack races, a dino dig, face painting and a mister. Inflatable bounce houses were also set up for the children's enjoyment.

Middle school students, members of the high school and junior high girls' basketball teams, junior high cheerleaders and GHS EAST students worked at the various game stations and helped chaperone children from one station to the next.

Students were treated to snacks and drinks during their break time. Zane Vanderpool, GDE principal, grilled hamburger patties, hot dogs and a few deer steaks for the teachers and volunteers who helped during the day. He also prepared a tasty fajita cheese sauce as an accompaniment. Desserts were served in the teachers' lounge to honor first-grade teacher Margaret Martin on her 70th birthday.
