GRAVETTE -- Benton County Sheriff's Office deputies relieved teachers from their duties in the car rider lines at Glenn Duffy Elementary School last week, according to Sergeant Shannon Jenkins, public information officer with BCSO. The deputies were on duty at GDE beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, May 10. This was a part of the department's Teacher Appreciation Week.

"They work hard for our children and we wanted to do something for them. Deputies opened doors for the students, kept the traffic flow going and threw out a ton of high-fives!" Jenkins said.

The Teacher Appreciation Week program was started last year, Jenkins reported, and, now that word has spread, schools all over Benton County are inquiring about how their school can be chosen.

Glenn Duffy was one of six schools chosen for car rider line duty this year. Other schools where teachers were honored included Bellview Elementary in Rogers, Central Park Elementary in Bentonville, Pea Ridge Primary School, Cooper Elementary in Bella Vista and Allen Elementary in Siloam Springs.
