'A Place to Call Home' open house

Shiloh Ministries invites all to an open house at "A Place to Call Home," from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26. "A Place to Call Home," a newly-opened home for young men in foster care, is located at 700 Lodge Drive in Sulphur Springs. A dedication ceremony will be held. Fairmount Cemetery Association to meet

The Fairmount Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, May 27, at the Fairmount Community Building. Dinner will be at 12:30 p.m., and the business session will follow. All families with loved ones buried in the cemetery are invited to attend. Dinner will be covered dish. Attendees are encouraged to bring enough food for guests from out of town; also bring drinks to suit your family's tastes. The Association will furnish ice water. The cemetery is maintained solely by donations, and those unable to attend are asked to honor their loved ones with a donation to the cemetery association, c/o David Patterson, 19198 Garmon Road, Gentry, AR 72734 or by calling 479-736-8125. A donation mailbox is available in the cemetery with envelopes.

GAR Monument to be rededicated

The Sons of Union Veterans and the Sons of Confederate Veterans are planning a rededication ceremony of the Grand Army of the Republic monument in Gentry. The monument was dedicated 100 years ago this year. The groups are planning on meeting at the primary school at 10 a.m. May 26 and will then decorate the Union and Confederate graves not already decorated. There will be a ceremony at the GAR monument.

Gravette Memorial Day service

The Gravette American Legion, John E. Tracy Post, will hold its annual Memorial Day service at Hillcrest Cemetery Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Flags will be raised and small flags placed by veterans' headstones May 25 at 9 a.m. Volunteers to help place the flags would be appreciated.

Memorial Day ceremony set in Sulphur Springs

The Sons of Union Veterans will be holding a ceremony at the GAR Cemetery on Skyline Drive, Sulphur Springs, at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 28. The group will be laying a wreath on the grave of Sgt. Hatler, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions 100 years ago during WWI. Sgt. Hatler is the only Medal of Honor recipient buried in Benton County. The public is invited to attend. Hiwasse ribbon cutting, open house

A grand opening ceremony, with ribbon cutting, for the Hiwasse community building and park will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31. The park is located at 13690 Fire House Lane. An open house will be held following the ribbon cutting. All in the area are invited to attend and see the recently completed improvements.

Vacation Bible School set at Gravette church

The dates for Vacation Bible School at Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette are June 10 to 14, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This year's theme is "Shipwrecked," and the program is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences which will allow children to see, hear, touch and even taste. The VBS will help children discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life. Save these dates on your calendar.

Jean, spirit wear collection drive slated

Bright Futures Gravette is collecting gently used and new jeans and Gravette Lion spirit wear during the month of May. The clothing items will be distributed to Gravette students during the Back to School Bash in August. Last year, 300 pairs were given out and it is estimated 300 pairs will be needed again to meet the need. Boys' and girls' sizes for elementary ages are needed most. Collections will be taken at area churches but, if you miss the collection time at your church, there will be a collection barrel at the school administration office located at 609 Birmingham St. S.E. Amateur radio club to meet June 7

The Bella Vista Amateur Radio Club holds its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Highland Christian Church. For those interested in acquiring an amateur radio license, the club also administers FCC exams on the second Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. All meetings and exams are held at Highland Christian Church, located at 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. (Hwy. 279), in Bella Vista. Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry AG church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs, and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies, are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Lions Club meetings set in Gravette, Gentry

The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron club meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month. Legion meetings will be held in the community meeting room at the Arvest Bank until renovation of the civic center is complete. All veterans are encouraged to attend. The next meeting will be May 15 at 7 p.m.

Singing services planned at Falling Springs church

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Post meets

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
