Gravette Library announces summer activities

GRAVETTE -- The Gravette Public Library, located at 119 Main Street S.E., has announced its schedule of summer activities for children, teens and adults. Summer literacy programs will start with children's Summer Bingo. Children may pick up special bingo cards, currently available at the library, and mark spaces as activities are completed. Completed cards may be exchanged for prizes.

Teen Tuesday Maker Space activities for teens will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday during the months of June and July. There is no cost to participate. This program is made possible by a $1,000 grant from Walmart DC #6051.

"We're excited to offer Maker Space for teens," said Karen Benson, library supervisor. "Activities will include circuitry, e-textiles, rock painting, mug cooking and building two Little Free Libraries, with one to be placed near the Hiwasse Community Building and the other by the Gravette Civic Center."

Summer reading registration for all ages will be held at the library during the week of June 18th. Teen and adult summer reading programs will begin June 25 and will be based on a bingo theme where participants may exchange their completed bingo cards for tickets to be used in an end-of-summer raffle.

The Children's Summer Reading Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday starting July 10 and ending August 7.

"We're excited to receive a $1,500 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for our 2018 Children's Summer Reading Club. This year's program will combine literacy with hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). The grant funds will go toward providing a book for every child who completes a reading log as well as materials for STEAM-related activities."
