Voters approve Gravette millage increase

Voters choose school board members, sheriff

WESTSIDE -- The Gravette School District millage increase was approved by voters, 1,421 to 943, according to uncertified results of Tuesday's election. The 2.5 mill increase approved by 60 percent of those voting in the school election raises Gravette's millage rate to 39.7 mills and will be used for the construction of a gymnasium/safe room at Gravette High School, a career and technical center addition, a middle school renovation for technology classes and a remodel for a safer entry and exit at Glenn Duffy Elementary School.

Robyn Skaggs Lovell narrowly defeated James H. Brown for the Position 7 seat on the Gravette School board, 1,188 votes to 1,025.

In Gentry, David Williamson was re-elected to his Position 7 at-large seat on the Gentry School Board, defeating Larry Scribner, 299-180. Randall Bollinger ran unopposed for the Zone 4 seat and had 91 votes.

Current school millage rates in Gentry and Decatur were reaffirmed by voters at 46 mills and 39.9 mills, respectively.

Shawn Holloway, current county sheriff, defeated Glenn Latham for the Republican nomination for Benton County Sheriff, 11,736 to 3,288. He is unopposed in the general election.
