ROGERS -- The Decatur and Gentry cheer teams, along with the Gentry junior high team, traveled east Nov. 17 to participate in the War Eagle Invitational Cheer Competition in the main gym at Heritage High School in Rogers. By the end of the day, both senior teams walked away with awards for two outstanding performances.
Junior and senior high teams from Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville, Rogers, Fort Smith, Alma, Centerton and Siloam Springs joined the Decatur and Gentry teams in this one-day competition.
The competition began with the junior high division. The Gentry junior high team was the final performance of this division. The young team performed a beautifully executed routine with only a few mistakes. With several outstanding performances from other teams before them, Gentry was knocked out of contention for any awards.
Up next were the three senior high divisions which included all-girls, mix and gameday. Gentry's all-girls team opened the senior competition. The team's nearly flawless performance earned them a first-place trophy in the 4A division.
Several teams later, and it was the Decatur Bulldog cheer team's turn to lead the crowd in the gameday division. Like Gentry, the Decatur team turned in an outstanding performance with only a couple of minor mistakes.
The results? The Decatur cheer team won first place in the 2A division, a nice addition to the trophy case at Peterson Gym in Decatur.
