GRAVETTE -- In its first home game of the 2018-19 basketball season, the Gravette varsity boys' team squared off against the Cedarville Pirates in a non-conference matchup at the competition gym in Gravette Nov. 20. The Lion fans were not disappointed as Gravette defeated Cedarville by 11 in a hard-fought contest.

For both Gravette and Cedarville, the first quarter was more of a defensive effort with neither team breaking the double-digit mark. Cedarville took a two-point lead going into the second quarter.

In that quarter, the Lions finally got the offense working, outscoring the Pirates, 18-5, to take a 25-14 lead into the break.

The Pirate defense held the Lions to 10 points in the third quarter and scored 20 points to cut the Lions' lead to one going into the final quarter.

The Pirates took the lead shortly after the start of the fourth quarter. But their lead was shortlived because the Lions went on the offensive at the four-minute mark and retook the lead. By the end of the contest, the Gravette Lions had won their first home game, 56-45, over the Cedarville Pirates.

The scoring drive was led by Brayden Trembly with 12, followed by Chace Austin and Issac Griffin, each with eight. Others scoring points included Johnny Dunfee with seven, Jake Carver with six, Kaleb Furlow with five, Colby McCarthy with four, and Drake Short and Tristan Batie, each with three.
