Gentry man accused of biting and fleeing officers on Monday

Jose Arroyo Sandoval, 34, of Gentry, was arrested on Monday in connection with fleeing from police and assaulting officers -- including biting one officer multiple times, according to the Siloam Springs Police Department.

The incident began when officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person near Washington and Jefferson Streets on Oct. 1, a release from the department states.

When the two officers spoke with Sandoval, he gave them a false date of birth, the release states. Officers were able to determine Sandoval's actual date of birth and discovered he had numerous warrants for theft of property, criminal trespass and failure to appear, the release states.

When officers attempted to place Sandoval in handcuffs, he fled on foot and officers gave chase, the release states. When officers caught Sandoval, he resisted their attempts to place him in handcuffs by fighting them and disobeying orders, it states. During the struggle, Sandoval retrieved a knife from his pocket but was disarmed, the release states.

According to the release, it was then that Sandoval continued to fight, biting one officer multiple times before being restrained.

Sandoval was taken into custody and transported to the Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He was then transported to the Benton County Jail.

On Tuesday, Benton County Sheriff's Office records show he was being held in the jail on eight charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery in the second degree and obstructing governmental operations, as well as his previous warrants.

Both Siloam Springs officers were treated and released for the injuries they received during the altercation, the release states.
