Lady Lions take down Lady Eagles in close match at home

GRAVETTE -- Gravette fans had plenty of reason to celebrate Sept. 25 in the old gym at Gravette High School when the Lady Lions took down the Lady Eagles of Huntsville in a very close match.

As the Lady Lions and Lady Eagles took the court for the first set of the match, fans on both sides of the net were in for a wild ride. The set remained very tight throughout as neither team allowed the other to gain any kind of advantage. The set stayed within two in the closing stages, with the Lady Eagles capturing the win, 25-23.

Gravette outshined Huntsville in the second set, pulling ahead by as much as 10 points. The Lady Eagles staged a short-lived run and pulled to within five before the Lady Lions shut the door and secured the second set win, 25-20.

The next two sets went back and forth, with both the Lady Lions and Lady Eagles playing excellent heads-up volleyball. The Lady Eagles took the third set 25-21. The score reversed for the fourth set, with the Lady Lions taking the win 25-21, sending the match into a tiebreaker.

A series of mistakes on the Huntsville side of the net landed the Lady Lions control of the tiebreaker and eventually the set, 15-7, and the conference win, three sets to two.

The Gravette Lady Lions were back in action Sept. 27 as they traveled to Berryville, facing the Lady Bobcats in another conference contest. Though the matches were close, the Lady Lions fell in three straight sets, 25-22, 26-24 and 26-24.
