GENTRY -- One could find almost anything for sale in Gentry and the surrounding communities along Arkansas Highway 59 last weekend, from clothing and household items to sporting and fishing gear to antiques and collectibles. Parking lots and open areas along the highway were filled with booths and merchandise for sale from Thursday through Saturday.

Unlike many years in which rain put a damper on the event, this year's near-perfect weather drew crowds of garage-sale shoppers from miles around to see what was offered and to buy those special items, boosting business for area restaurants and fast-food establishments, as well.

The biggest issue with the three-day event was increased traffic and, in a few places, problems finding parking off the highway.

All in all, the event, sponsored by area chambers of commerce, was viewed as a huge success and many are looking forward to a repeat of the event again next fall.
