Lions overcome by Bobcats at Berryville

GRAVETTE -- Sophomore quarterback J.D. Smith ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as Berryville rolled past Gravette and picked up its first 4A-1 Conference win of the season, 42-7.

Tajae White scored in the first quarter for Gravette on a 90-yard kickoff return. Bob Barrios kicked the point after to make it a 13-7 game with five minutes left in the first quarter, but that was the end of Gravette's scoring for the night.

Berryville picked up another touchdown in the second quarter, two in the third and another in the fourth for the win.

Tristan Updegraff had 131 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, while Brett Parsons added 14 carries for 100 yards and a score for the Bobcats (3-4, 1-3), who snapped a 15-game losing skid in league play. Christian Lemus also ran for a touchdown, while Wyatt Poe caught a 57-yard touchdown pass for Berryville.

The Lions host the Tigers from Green Forest at 7 p.m. on Friday in Lion Stadium.
