Pioneers dominated by Eagles

GENTRY -- The Pioneers were dominated by the Eagles in Huntsville on Friday, losing their second game of the season, 35-6.

The Eagles took the lead early, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter, with extra points, to be up 21-0 at the buzzer. While both teams were scoreless in the second quarter, the Eagles picked up another TD and PAT in the third and fourth quarters.

Gentry's only score in the game came in the final quarter when Zack Jarnagan, a sophomore, returned a Huntsville kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

The Pioneers had only 71 rushing yards in the game and another 139 yards on 18 receptions.

Brandon Atwood, Gentry's junior quarterback completed 18 of 28 passes in the game, with eight of those to Peyton Wright for 43 yards total and six to Beau Tomlin for 58 yards.

Wright led the Pioneers in solo tackles with five. Garrett Hays had three solo tackles and 10 assists.

The Pioneers are 0-2 in nonconference play and 0-2 for the season.

Gentry's next game is not until Friday, Sept. 14, when the Pioneers host the Greenland Pirates for a nonconference game at 7 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium.
