Sulphur Park Cleanup

Sharon Comstock, president of the parks commission in Sulphur Springs, announced that volunteers are needed to help do cleanup at the historic downtown park, beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23. Volunteers are requested to come out, bring gloves, weedeaters and garden tools and be prepared to help spruce up the park for the upcoming Indian taco dinner and the Pickin' Time on 59 weekend. NAGS to meet on Sept. 24

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet Monday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Bentonville Public Library, 405 South Main Street, Bentonville. Mike Freels, who is active in both the Benton and Washington County Cemetery Preservation Groups will present a program for beginners on using Find A Grave. Pickin' Time on 59 set for Sept. 27-29

Pickin' Time on 59 begins Thursday, Sept. 27, and runs through Saturday, Sept. 29. The three-day event promises garage and yard sales from Siloam Springs to Sulphur Springs, both along Highway 59 and in the cities and towns along the state highway. Hours are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. The annual event will feature yard-sale items, antiques and collectibles. Chicken dinner fundraiser

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center will hold a chicken dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. The dinner includes fried chicken, baked beans, potato salad, a biscuit, dessert and drink for $8. Meals may be purchased to eat in or carry out. The center is located at 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette. Call 479-787-5050 to order a takeout. All proceeds go to the Meals on Wheels program that serves homebound seniors in Gravette, Decatur, Sulphur Springs, Hiwasse and Maysville.

Glow Ride planned Sept. 29 in Gentry

The third annual Glow Ride will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. Cyclists will meet on the north side of Gentry City Park to add glow sticks and decorations to their bicycles and, at approximately 7 p.m., will ride as a group through part of Gentry. The event is free to all and some glow sticks will be provided to riders without charge. Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated bicycles. The event is sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce and all the individuals and businesses which hold membership in the organization. Indian taco fundraiser dinner

A fundraiser dinner featuring authentic Indian tacos prepared by the famous Ed Proctor will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the old school cafeteria, 215 S. Black Ave., in Sulphur Springs. Meals will feature Indian tacos, drink and dessert. Cost will be $8 for adults, $4 for children under 10. Carryouts will be available. Maysville craft sale

A craft sale will be held at the Maysville community building from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, and 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, featuring fun fall crafts and more. Vendors will offer unique country fair crafts, home decor, coffee and snacks, and essential oils. There will be gifts galore. Vendor space is available for $10 a booth. PSAT testing available

Juniors at Gravette High School will be given the opportunity to take the PSAT on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 8 a.m. The PSAT measures verbal reasoning, critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills. It is probably better known as the preliminary SAT and can be used as an indicator of how students will perform on the SAT. The PSAT is the National Merit Scholarship qualifier test for juniors. Sophomores will be allowed to also take the test for practice. The fee for the test is $16. Seating is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Miss Octoberfest Pageants set

The Miss Octoberfest Pageants will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Gentry High School Auditorium. They are sponsored by the Gentry Junior High Cheerleaders. The pageant is open to any and all participants, with age divisions from 0 months to 18 years of age, including divisions for boys from 0 months to 6 years of age. It is not required that participants be residents of Gentry. Applications will be available online at gentrypioneers.com website and contain information regarding times and fees. TOPS meet in Gentry

Gentry TOPS AR113, a non-profit group which promotes healthy weight loss, meets every Monday at the First Christian Church Fellowship Room, Second and Giles, with a weigh in at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting at 3 p.m. There is a small fee to join but the first meeting is free.

First Baptist Food Pantry open in Decatur

First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Avenue in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the church at 479-752-3514.

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partners with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs, and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies, are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Lions meetings set in Gravette, Gentry

The Gravette Lions Club meets at 12:15 p.m., the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron club meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month. Legion meetings will be held in the fellowship hall at the United Methodist Church until the renovation of the civic center is complete. All veterans are welcome. Singing services planned at Falling Springs church

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
