Volunteers sought for upcoming fall festival

GRAVETTE -- The annual Gravette Community fall festival, trunk or treat and chili cook-off is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Greater Gravette Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Ozarks Community Hospital, with all activities set up on the front parking lot at the hospital. Volunteers who have helped with past events, or newcomers who would like to assist, are urged to contact Chamber officials and offer their services.

With the big event coming up in just over a month, Amanda Gittlein, Chamber secretary, is seeking vendors to set up booths and help make the evening a success. Vendors may sell items, but each booth must feature a game with candy or prizes for visitors. Gittlein says her goal is to have more booths than last year, and the 2017 event distributed more than 800 hot dogs, so there was a large number attending. Any area business, church or civic organization that wishes to have a booth or trunk should contact Gittlein at OCH, 479-344-6464, or on her cell phone, 417-773-7227, and make sure to fill out an entry form.

As the event grows each year, assistance with parking cars has become a valuable service. Also, volunteers to help with setup (from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and tear down (from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.) will be appreciated. Those who are not able to help in person may assist by providing donations of candy to supplement the trunk or treat vendors or by making monetary contributions.

Gittlein also reminds area residents that a chili cook-off will again be a part of the annual festival. Anyone wishing to enter the chili cook-off should contact her.
