Club announces scholarship winners

GRAVETTE -- Members of the Gravette Kiwanis Club have been busy with projects during the time their normal meetings have been suspended.

The announcement was made recently of the winners of the annual Kiwanis scholarships. Tiffany Wheeler was the winner of a special $1,000 scholarship since she has served as lieutenant governor for the district's Key Clubs and has been an active member of the Key Club at Gravette High School and demonstrates the principals the club promotes. Tiffany was also the winner of the $1,000 Earl Collins scholarship given annually to an outstanding senior by the area Kiwanis Clubs. She won over applicants from larger schools.

Maddie Mitchell was the winner of the $1,000 Al Kuettner Scholarship. Julia Matteson received the $1,000 Cory Mosier Scholarship. Ashlyn Newton and Caitlyn Bass were winners of the Meade Family Scholarships given to students majoring in a medical field. The Meade family funds the $2,500 scholarships but winners are chosen by the Gravette Kiwanis members.

"The Gravette Kiwanis applaud all the 2020 seniors," a Kiwanis spokesman said.

A club representative said the group is happy to announce that GHS teacher Jeff Gravette has agreed to be the Key Club advisor next year and "the club regrets to have lost one of our most faithful members, Zane Vanderpool, who has moved out of town." Vanderpool was given an appreciation card.
