Building permits to be required in Springtown

— Building permits will be required in Springtown to erect a new building or make modifications to existing buildings within the town’s limits.

In an ordinance adopted Oct. 13, the town spells out the new requirement and the fee schedule for permit applications.

Persons wishing to build a new structure or modify an existing structure will need to apply to the town’s code enforcement officer for a building permit. Applications are to include building plans, the legal description and boundary lines of the property upon which the structure is to be built or modified, the location on the property of the structure or modification and the purpose for the building or improvements.

The base permit fee is $25, with additional charges for projects over 75 square feet and a maximum fee of $3,000. A $25 fee is also set for inspections for the purpose of remodeling or altering an existing structure or moving an existing structure.

The building permits are good for six months and must be renewed if no work has started within that time period.

The ordinance prohibits occupancy of any building until a certificate of occupancy is issued by the town’s code enforcement officer.

The ordinance includes an emergency clause to protect the property and lives of the town’s residents. The full text of the ordinance is included in the legal section of this issue.
