Decatur Education Foundation in need of donations

— The Decatur Education Foundation has issued a call for contributions to replenish its funds which supports the Decatur Schools. Since its founding almost six years ago, the Foundation has funded forty-two scholarships for graduating, has purchased a Yamaha piano for the Northside Elementary School music program, used timpani (kettle drums) for the high school band, assisted in landscaping the Elementary School campus, as well as played a major role in financial assistance to the schools when problems arose two years ago.

With the start of the current school year, the foundation is asking the community for financial support so that it may continue assisting the local schools. Among the items needing funding are some specialized band instruments such as a Sousaphone, tuba, french horn, saxophones, and music stands. About 45 fifth and sixth graders have indicated an interest in starting band instrument instruction this year and the foundation would like to assist needy students in renting their instruments. The foundation would also like to be able to award ten scholarships to 2011 graduating seniors.

Citizens of Decatur and other interested persons are asked to make monetary contributions to the Foundation to help these current projects. Contributions to the Decatur Education Foundation may be given to any Decatur State Bank cashier.

The Decatur Education Foundation is a tax exempt 501 c(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible.
