Gravette City Council to consider new ordinances

— Two new members for the Gravette Public Library Commission were sworn in to their positions at the Aug. 10 City Council Committee of the Whole meeting.

Mayor Bill Howard administered the oath of office to Lisa Singleton and Jenni Bohannon. Another new commissioner, Tina Crose, was not present for the ceremony.

One Way Main

A topic involving changing Main Street to one-way from west to east from Highway 59 to Third Avenue was mentioned. Both sides of the street would have angle parking. The planning commission will consider the measure after the survey is completed and a report will be made to the Council.

Firearm Ordinance

A proposal was placed on the Aug. 26 regular meeting agenda to amend the city’s firearm ordinance which would allow for hunting on agricultural lands of two acres or more inside the city limits.

Code Enforcement

Council member Byron Warren asked who is responsible for code enforcement, and Mayor Bill Howard informed the committee he is the code enforcement officer for the city.

Warren also requested that City Hall create a flow chart of positions and responsibilities for the city.

In a meeting of the finance and administration committee that followed the above committee meeting, the group reviewed the monthly financial statement. No action was taken or recommended.
