DECATUR — Mike Barnett, Decatur's animal control officer, stood next to the dog box on the city's new animal control truck on Friday morning.
The new dog box will safely and humanely transport dogs and protect them from the weather, whether it be rain, cold or heat. The box is completely enclosed except for the ventilation system and has a fan on top that will keep it cool in the summer.
It also has a door with an opening for a dog catching pole so Barnett can more safely handle dangerous dogs.
"It will be safer for the dogs and for me," he said.
The box cost $1,400, bringing the price of the 2008 GMC Sierra, also equipped with a toolbox and a bed liner, to $16,000.
