Train rides coming to Decatur

— Parks and recreation committee members met briefly on Jan. 28 to discuss the upcoming ATV Rodeo, planned tentatively for June 12.

The rodeo will be held on city property, either in town or on the property adjoining the wastewater treatment plant. Since only three members were present at the meeting, no decisions were made and no new information was presented.

In other business, committee chairman Tripp Lapham reported that he has confirmed that a train will be providing rides for children at Bulldog Days, on Aug. 7 and 8. The train owners have $1 million in liability insurance and have agreed to give 10 percent of their profits to the city. They have also requested a place to park their camper, Lapham reported.

The next Parks and Recreation Committee meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 15, in the City Council room.
