Library helps patrons wishing to play hooky

Fishing gear offered on loan from public library

— Think the public library is only a place for book worms? Well, that’s just not true because the Gentry Public Library is offering to help its patrons play hooky and cast out a fishing line at their favorite fishing hole.

The library, with the help of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, is loaning out rods and reels - that’s right, not just books but fishing gear - free of charge.

And so, if you don’t havea fishing pole, that’s not an excuse to skip out on playing hooky once in a while. Just go to the library and borrow the fishing gear you need and then bring it back when you’re done.

Of course, if you want to learn about fish and fishing methods, you might also want to use your library card to check out a book or two on the subject. You might even find some of those fishing magazines there to read so you can learn all the latesttechniques to reel in that big one.

The fishing gear is available at the library through the AGFC Tackle Loaner Program. The programwas started in 1993, but the Gentry Library has recently signed on to become a location from which people can borrow the gear.

And what better reason could there be to have a library card than playing hooky and reading about fishing!
