Library book sale

A new and used book sale will be held at the Gentry Public Library from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 3 and 4 in the Community Room. All proceeds from the sale will be used for the Library.

Ozark Family Camp Meeting

The camp meeting which started Tuesday continues through Saturday at the Ozark Adventist Academy grounds, with evening meetings starting at 7 p.m. Morning and evening activities are also available for children. Speakers include Ron Halverson, John Clark, John Baldwin, Carol Zarska, and Nancy and Jeff Riedesell. More information is available at www.ozarkcampmeeting.com.

Special service and concert

The Springtown and Highfill United Methodist Churches are having a special combined service at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 6, at the Highfill church, featuring the Christian band The Altered Project.

The community is invited to join in worship, followed by a covereddish dinner, and a concert by The Altered Project at 1 p.m.

School Choice applications

The Gentry Public School District will receive Public School Choice applications until June 30. An information sheet and an application may be downloaded at www.gentrypioneers.com or picked up in person at the superintendent’s office during business hours.

Booked for Lunch

The Booked for Lunch speaker for June 14 is Peter Main of AEP Southwestern Electric Power Company. He will speak on energysaving tips for both homes and businesses. The program begins at noon in the Gentry Public Library. Community members are invited to bring a sack lunch. Drinks and dessert are provided by the library.

Grief support group

A grief support group meets in the fellowship hall at the Victory Missionary Baptist Church, 1120 East Main Street in Gentry, at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. The group is facilitated by Pastor Larry Hendren, who was trained in grief counseling through the clinical pastoral education program at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

Miss Gentry Pageants

The annual Miss Gentry and Little Miss and Mister Gentry pageants will be held during the Freedom Festival celebration in the park on Saturday, July 3rd. Michelle Finnell will be the director of the pageants. Finnell can be reached at 957-4594. Applications are now available on the Gentry School District Web page, at the Gentry city office, Arvest Bank, Gentry Bank, Liberty Bank or in the high school office. The deadline for entries is June 30th. Gentry girls who will be a senior next year are invited to compete for the Miss Gentry title. The winner will receive $200, as well as a crown and sash. She will also represent Gentry at the annual Decatur Barbecue and the Miss Benton County Fair. Little Miss and Mister Gentry must live in the Gentry school district and be between the ages of 3 and 5 on July 3rd. The Freedom Fest activities are sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce.

Old Settlers’ Day

Old Settlers’ Day in Colcord is set for June 5. The day includes free food in the city park at noon, live music and children’s games. A parade is planned for 11 a.m. A rodeo is planned for June 4 and 5.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 29.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. during the warmer months. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry on Falling Springs Road.

Head Start Enrollment

Northwest Arkansas Head Start program and its curriculumbased child development centers are currently accepting applications for fall 2010 enrollment at all their locations - Siloam Springs, Gentry, Decatur, Bentonville, Pea Ridge, Green Forest, Berryville, Huntsville and Rogers. Head Start offers a free comprehensive child-development program for children who meet eligibility requirements and were born on or after Aug. 15, 2007.
