Chili Supper and Benefit

A chili supper and benefit auction is planned for Donna Clark Aman at 5 p.m., May 15, at the Northside Elementary School. Aman was diagnosed with a rare virus that destroyed her heart muscle. She is in urgent need of a heart transplant. Donations of desserts and new items for the auction are welcome. For more information, contact Gala Aman at 918-326-1002.

Athletic Awards Banquet

The Decatur High School Athletic Awards Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m., May 18, in the Northside Elementary School cafeteria.

Academic Awards Ceremony

Decatur High School students will be presented with academic awards and scholarships at 6:30 p.m., May 17, in the Lloyd Peterson Gymnasium.

Spring Concert

The Decatur high and junior high school band will hold a spring concert at 7 p.m., May 13, in the high school cafeteria.

Band Yard Sale

The Decatur band will be holding a yard sale to benefit the band from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., May 15, in the breezeway between the middle school and high school campus. Donations may be dropped off at 8 a.m. on the morning of the sale or between 8 a.m. and noon on May 14, in the bandroom.

Chuckwagon Dinner

A Chuckwagon Dinner will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., May 8, at the Assembly of God Church on North Main Street in Decatur. The event will feature outdoor cooking, gospel singing and children’s games. The community is invited.

Kindergarten Graduation

Northside Elementary School’s kindergarten graduation ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., June 3, in the school cafeteria. A pre-kindergarten program will be held at 9:30 a.m., June 2, in the school cafeteria.

Pre-kindergarten Enrollment

Northside Elementary School’s pre-kindergarten enrollment and screening will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 7 and 10. Children are required to be 3-years-old by August 1. There are a limited number of openings and preference will be given to children who turn 4-years-old before Aug. 1. Parents are asked to bring a birth certificate, social security card, proof of income, proof of residence in the Decatur School District and immunization records. Town Hall Meetings

The Decatur School District holds regular town hall meetings in place of school board meetings at 7 p.m., the third Monday of the month, in the high school cafeteria. The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m., May 10, due to a conflict on May 17.

Graduation

The Decatur High School graduation ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m., May 21, in the Lloyd Peterson Gymnasium.

Class of 2000 Reunion

Decatur High School Class of 2000 is planning a 10-year reunion this summer. The reunion committee would love for everyone who graduated from Decatur in 2000 to participate in the reunion but needs addresses or contact information for a large portion of the graduates. Creators Cafe, a creative writing group, meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month and from 11 a.m until 12:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month in the Iva Jane Peek Library. Activities include reading and writing poetry, discussions of famous poets and their work, challenges, slam and stand up, and contests and prizes. Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation Committee meetings will be held at 6 p.m., on the first Thursday of the month in the city council room. However, the next meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 5. Traveling through Arkansas

Northside Elementary School will be hosting a “Traveling Through Arkansas” night from 6 to 8 p.m., May 6. The evening will feature a celebration of all things Arkansas, including entertainment, student art displays, and booths about Arkansas history, culture, local businesses and industries, natural resources, nature wildlife and more.

Food Pantry

The Decatur food pantry is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. The pantry offers free nonperishable food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located at the United Methodist Church in Decatur. NWA Riding Club play days set

The NWA Riding Club holds play-day rodeo at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1, at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Ribbons will be awarded nightly, with an awards banquet at the end of the season. A point system will be in effect. There will be five age classes, with events including poles, barrels, flags, speed and mutton busting. Memberships are $30 per year for a family. There is no charge for nightly events. The NWA Riding Club is a non-profit, non-alcoholic, drugfree environment for families. For more information, call 752-3466 or 899-3259.

Newspaper office hours

Regular office hours at the Gentry news office of Northwest Arkansas Newspapers LLC are limited to make it possible for staff to be out covering news and events. Regular hours will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Staff members will be in and out of the office at other times, but calling ahead to 736-2822 or 233-0081 is recommended. Subscription and advertising assistance is also available by calling the Siloam Springs office at 524-5144.

Council Meetings

Decatur city council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of each month in the council room at city hall and are open to the public. For more information, call 752-3912.

Assembly of God Van Service

Van service is available to children and adults who need transportation to Sunday morning and evening church services and Wednesday evening services at the Assembly of God Church in Decatur. For more information, contact Stacy Brooks at 790-7171.
