Haiti Benefit Dinner

— Young ladies from the Gentry Mennonite Church served those who came out to support relief work in Haiti at a special benefit dinner held in Gentry on May 1. The dinner, sponsored by the Gentry Mennonite Youth to benefit the people of Haiti, was held under the Main Street Pavilion in Gentry.

The dinner was offered without charge, but a freewill donation was taken for the Christian Disaster Relief - Shelter Division to benefit the people of Haiti. And response was good.

Many local residents came out for the dinner. Approximately 245 people were served and $3,750 was raised, with 100 percent of the money going to the Haiti relief work.

Raymond Withers, a self-funded volunteer who spent 11 years working in Haiti, spoke at the event and talked about the Haiti earthquake and conditions and work to be done there. Withers was in Port-au-Prince when the devastating January earthquake hit and was involved in rescue work there following the quake.
