Results of Track Teams Efforts At 4-A Track Meet At Pocahontas

— Gravette’s Lady Lion track team brought home the second place trophy they won at the Class 4-A state track meet held recently in Pocahontas.

The girls finished second behind Nashville, a perennial powerhouse with almost twice as many girls in competition. aHeber Springs finished third. There was a total of 28 teams in competition.

Other Northwest Arkansas teams at the meet were Berryville and Prairie Grove who finished in 13th and 22nd place respectively.

The Nashville boys harriers also topped the 32 Arkansas teams with the Lions finishing in 9th place overall. Shiloh Christian finished in the third position. Other Northwest Arkansas teams were Gentry, Berryville and Huntsville who finished with 13, 9 and 3 points.

Girls Results

The Lady Lions 4 x 800 relay team topped the field with their first place finish with a time of 10:27.86. The team, Sarah Galyean, Daisey Kusters, Candace Pembleton andKyndra Meeker finished well ahead of the Nashville girls.

Gravette’s Shelby Newell won first place in the triple jump with a 35-02.50 finish ahead of two girls from Nashville.

Other individual performances included Haley House who took fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.06.

Daisey Kusters’ time of 2:34.13 was a third place finish and Sarah Galyean, 2:43.86, was seventh in the 800 meter run.

Kusters, with a time of 5:59.39 was good for fourth in the 1600 meter run. A pulled muscle in her ankle made it unable for her to compete in several other events.

In the 3200 meter run Kyndra Meeker was fourth with a time of 13:15.96.

Taylor Keans’ time of 17.06 was good for eighth in the 100 meter hurdles. She also finished tenth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 50.48.

In the 4 x 400 meter relay, Gravette girls Shelby Newell, Taylor Kean, Kaitlynn Britton and Sarah Galyean came in third with a timeof 4:26.22.

Shelby Newell, besides her first place in the triple jump, was eighth in the high jump with 14-00.00 and fifth in the long jump with 16-04.25.

Boys Results

In the boys’ competition several Lions had good results in events including Gravette speedster Michael Croasdell who had a second place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.22.

In the 4 x 100 meter relay, the team of Nathan Ortmann, Croasdell, Cody Bullock and Trey Tyner finished in fourth place with a time of 44.37.

Alex Lovell had a leap of 5-07.00 for eleventh place in the high jump.

In the long jump Michael Croasdell was fourth with 20.0 and Nathan Ortmann’s 19-10.50 was good for sixth place.

Darrick Strzelecki was fifth at the state meet with 40-3.

The meet, in northeastern Arkansas, was marred by tornado warnings and other weather conditions but competition was able to be completed.
