— The senior high Bulldogs were defeated 57-12 during Friday night’s home game against Conway Christian.

“They literally outran us. They were the fastest team we’ve seen this year,” said Decatur’s head coach Stan Ellis.

Conway’s Bates Isom had six carries for 160 yards and Kirby Powell threw three touchdowns. Powell also scored a touchdown on a one yard run in the first quarter.

“Conway is a really good team. They are very dangerous offensively. We’ve seen their speed on film before,” Ellis said.

The Bulldogs showed quite a bit of improvement on Friday, in spite of the loss, he said. The team put together two long drives for scores during the game.

Blake Wilkins scored on a run up the middle in the first quarter and Mitchell Perry scored a second touchdown on a 30 yard run that came off a reverse in the second half.

The team played well throughout the game and didn’t make many mistakes or penalties, Ellis said. “The kids seemed to play hard. They blocked the right people and hung onto the ball.”

Ellis is optimistic about next week’s homecoming game against Western Yell County, especially if the Bulldogs play as well as they did against Conway Christian.

“Honestly, I expect good things this week,” he said.
