DHS artists study optical illusions

— Students in the Decatur High School’s Art I class proudly showed their recently completed optical illusion art projects on Monday morning.

Students in the seventh grade art class also participated in the project, according to teacher Janette Raymond. Students used their first name and added symbols of their choice. Students cut out strips of construction paper and glued them together to create the optical illusions. Then they coated the surface with Mod Podge to create a shiny finish, Raymond said.

Students agreed that they enjoyed studying how to “play tricks on the eye.”

“It was pretty awesome,” said Loren Juarez.

This is the first of many optical illusion projects Raymond has planned for the school year. Some of the more advanced and intricate projects planned for later in the year will include math, she said.
