— We’re enjoying the cooler weather and the rains that have blown up as recent tropical storms moved inland.

The moisture came too late to help the garden though. I’ve pulled up several tomato plants that have died but the yard is beginning to green up and grow a bit again.

The pot of lemon yellow cosmos near the fish pond is blooming nicely and one of the gerbera daisies has begun to blossom again. Plump seed pods have appeared on the wisteria vine atop the cellar.

The mail carrier brought a note from the daughter of my pen pal in Washington with the sad news that my correspondent had died last month.

Jim and I drove to Anderson Friday evening to cheer on the Lions as they defeated the McDonald County Mustangs.

The Lions return to play at Lion Field and host the annual homecoming game this Friday. Don’t forget the homecoming parade at 2:30 that afternoon, then plan to attend the game, view the homecoming court and their escorts and support the team as they close out their pre-conference play.
