— The Bulldogs faced the Mountainburg Dragons last week, for a junior high win and a senior high loss.

On Thursday night, the junior high team played at home against the Dragons and won 14-0.

“Basically everything they did worked, so they had a good night,” Ellis said.

The junior high team had no trouble moving the ball up and down the field and kept the ball away from the other team, he said.

“They were able to pretty much go at their own pace,” Ellis said.

The senior high team didn’t fare so well, with a 41-0 loss, when they traveled to play Mountainburg on Friday night.

The competition was tough, according to Ellis. The Dragons were undefeated coming into the game and just moved from the 3A conference to the 2A conference this year.

“In my opinion, Mountainburg is one of the better teams in our conference,” he said.

There were several turnovers in the first quarter that left the Bulldogs playing catch-up for the rest of the game, according to Ellis. Even though the rest of the game went pretty well, the team had a hard time getting into the game and making things work after the first quarter, he said.

Despite the loss, Ellis said he saw several improvements in his team since last week’s win against Hartford.

The Bulldogs played a good kicking game and had very few penalties - which was their real trouble in last week’s game against Hartford, he said.

The team kept a good attitude and kept trying all the way to the end, which is the most important thing, Ellis said.

Next week the Bulldogs junior high team will play Hackett at home on Thursday night. The senior high team will travel to play Hackett on Friday night.

Ellis said the Bulldogs have a fair chance of winning against Hackett, but he still expects a fight.

“They are a good team, and fast, but not as big (as the Mountainburg team),” he said.

After last weeks games, the senior high Bulldogs are 1-1 in conference and the junior high Bulldogs are 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
