Unlocked vehicles recent targets of Gravette thefts

— The Gravette police department warns residents to lock their vehicles.

Two vehicles were stolen in Gravette just before the Christmas holiday. Both were unlocked. Both had keys left in the vehicle.

Stolen the night of Dec. 17 was a vehicle parked at 1102 Dallas Street S.W., belonging to Dallas Powell. Police recovered the vehicle the following morning where it had been wrecked on Second Avenue S.E.

The other vehicle was taken from 603 Magnolia St., sometime during the night of Dec. 21. The vehicle, which belonged to Kim Sutherland, was recovered in a field across the highway from the Westfield Hardware store. Stolen from the vehicle were a GPS instrument and a leaf blower.

Gravette Police Lt. David Smith said the incidents are under investigation and anyone with information is requested to call the police department, 787-5911.

He also warns persons to remove the keys and lock their vehicles.
