4-H to hold carnival

— The Benton County annual 4-H Valentine Carnival is set for Feb. 19 at the county fair grounds in Vaughn.

The annual fund-raising and promotional event includes fun games, with tickets sold - 5 for $1 - for children to play the games. Those playing win either candy or tokens for each game played and then can trade in thetokens for great prizes, according to Janice Shofner, county extension agent with the 4-H program.

A concession stand will serve hot dogs, nachos and lots of different kinds of pie prepared by 4-H club members entering a pie baking contest. Pies will be sold by the slice, with the winning pies - about 10 of them - being auctioned.

A king and queen contest will be held, with each club voting on their candidates and then raising money by getting donations. They will bring a decorated coffee can with their donations, and at the end of the evening the winning boy and girl are crowned Mr. and Ms. Benton County 4-H King and Queen.

A Silent Auction will be held in which each club donates a themed basket or other merchandise.

The events begin at 6 p.m. and will continue until 8:30. The Pie Auction and Pie Awards will begin around 7 p.m.
