'Love Lights a Tree" still accepting gifts

— Contributions are still being accepted for the annual “Love Lights a Tree” project in Centennial Park, according to Mary Beth Mitchell, local project coordinator.

This annual project raises money to help fight cancer and all proceeds fund cancer research and service programs by the Northwest Arkansas unit of the American Cancer Society.

Each year a tree is lighted with sparklingred, white and blue lights. White lights represent the memory of loved ones who have died, red lights honor cancer survivors and blue lights honor our military or anyone you would like to remember during the holiday season, explains Mitchell. Area residents are asked to donate money for lights; a $5 donation is suggested.

When sending donations, please include the name of the person to be honored on the tree, what color light should be featured, your relationship or friendship to the person and your name. Contributions should be mailed to Love Lights A Tree, P. O. Box 116, Gravette, AR 72736, or contact Mitchell or Colleen Dickinson, who assist with the project.

A lighting of the tree will be held in the park, located in downtown Gravette, at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. The public is invited to this special ceremony. All names will be read that evening. The tree will remain lighted throughout the holiday season.
