Construction started on county road yard

— Benton County applied for and received a building permit from the city of Decatur last week for a new County Road Yard and work is already under way, according to Mayor Charles Linam.

The new road yard will be located off of Arkansas Highway 102 West inside the city limits and service the west side of the county. The County Quorum Court approved $650,000 for the building of the road yard on Aug. 25.

County Judge Bob Clinard did not return the Eagle Observer’s phone calls before his office closed Friday.

Linam said it is his understanding the county plans to begin work on the maintenance building at thefront of the property immediately. On Friday morning a concrete pad had already been poured.

The city expects to start digging a waterline to the Road Yard on Tuesday. A sewer line is already in place and all the proper easements have been recorded, Linam said.

According to the building permit, the county plans to build a wash bay behind the maintenance building and a covered equipment-parking area, as well as several other proposed structures in the future, including a concentrated natural gas fueling area, Linam said.

“You’ll start to see it going up next week,” he said.
