— The Decatur Bulldogs lost 48-12 against Mountainburg on Friday in a 1-2A Conference football game at Bulldog Stadium.

The Dragons’ win improved their record to 3-0 in season play and 2-0 in conference play. Decatur, meanwhile, dropped to 1-2 with the loss and 1-1 in the 1-2A Conference.

“We met some guys that were big and fast and had a very good quarterback,” said Decatur’s head coach Shane Holland, who described the game as brutal.

The Bulldogs lagged 42-0 at half-time but rallied in the second half of the game, scoring two touchdowns - by junior quarterback Evan Owens and junior wide receiver and defensive back Nou Thor. They also held the Dragons to only six points in the second half.

In addition to the touchdown reception, Thor also made nine tackles during the game.

Sophomore outside linebacker Steven Buckmaster, named player of the week, made two interceptions, a quarterback sack and five tackles.

The Bulldogs will celebrate seniors’ night this Friday with a home game against the Hackett Hornets.

Junior High

The Decatur Bulldogs junior high team exacted a little early revenge for the senior high loss, defeating Mountainburg 6-0 on Thursday.

The victory brings the junior Bulldogs to 3-0 in season play.

Brothers Mario and Victor Urquidi made a number of tackles during the game and Victor gained several yards in rushing, Holland said.
