GRAVETTE — The Miss Gravette 2012 Pageant is at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the Gravette High School Performing Arts Center.
This year’s pageant will be set to music from hit movies featuring Tom Cruise. The pageant is appropriately titled, “Cruisin.’” It will open with the music from his newest movie, Rock of Ages. A selfchoreographed dance will be performed by A.J. Claborn dancing to “Juke Box Hero.” Singing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and “Paradise City” will be the talented Jodeci Paige Clevenger.
Miss Gravette pageant director Deree Mitchell said, “Each Miss Gravette theme has been more fun than the previous, and it gets harder and harder to top the last, but I am very excited about this year’s.”
The contestants get to show off their school spirit by competing in Gravette wear, in which they wear an outfit of choice that includes school colors, orange and black. Micayla Hendricks and A.J. Claborn will start off Gravette wear with their selfchoreographed dance to “Hippy, Hippy Shake” from the movie Cocktail.
Back again to perform this year is brother and sister duo, Christian and Jodeci Clevenger, who thrilled audiences last year with their vocals and guitar talent.
“No celebration of Tom Cruise movies would be complete without a song from one of the best movies ever made, ‘Top Gun,’” said Deree Mitchell.
Ashton Yarbrough will begin the competition for evening wear with her rendition of “Take My Breath Away.”
The Miss Gravette contestants will end the evening with a finale, rocking out to the classic song “Old Time Rock ‘n Roll.”
Each year the Gravette Chamber of Commerce selects a previous Miss Gravette to be a guest of honor at the pageant. This year’s guest of honor is Tobi Mitchell Harrell, Miss Gravette 1996.
Contestants will compete in interview, onstage question, Gravette wear and evening wear. Admission is free to the public. All family, friends and the community are encouraged to attend and show their support.
The new Miss Gravette 2012 will be crowned Saturday, Aug. 11, in Old Town Park, during ceremonies following the Gravette Day Parade.
