New technology director hired for Decatur Schools

— School board members voted to hire Charles Weber as the new Decatur School District’s technology director at a special meeting on Dec. 3.

Weber is set to begin work in two weeks. He will have a salary of $38,000 and work 240 contract days a year, Decatur superintendent Larry Ben told the school board.

Weber said he got his first computer at age 12 and began working in a technical support position at age 18. Since then he has had extensive operating system training. He told the board he has also trained with Sony and worked in sales andtechnical support. Weber said he continues to stay as up to date as possible.

“Working with computers has been a hobby and a passion of mine since I was young,” he said.

Weber said his formal education consisted of a bachelors degree in ministry and a masters degree in marriage and family counseling.

The school is currently using Clear Pointe IT services for their technology needs and is slowly clearing away the backlog of work orders, Ben said.

After Weber begins his job, Ben said he plans to have Clear Pointe continue to work two half-days a week in order to have a smooth transition and then gradually decrease its time at the school until no longer needed.
