Freedom celebrated

— Though the day was hot, with afternoon temperatures hovering just above the century mark, Gentry's Freedom Festival was busier than ever, with record numbers attending the evening events and fireworks display.

Softball games continued all day in spite of the heat, classy cars lined the entire walkway circle, horse shoes clanged against the posts, children and adults enjoyed rides on camels and inflatable slides, tractors pulled wagon loads of people across the park anddowntown, youth competed in a Wii dance contest, young ladies vied for the title of Little Miss Gentry, and performers entertained the crowds from the stage. Many enjoyed the opportunity to visit with friends and neighbors.

Then, at dusk, the fireworks began and crowds cheered for one of the biggest and best displays ever.

Though many would have appreciated the cooler weather and rains which have dampened previous July 4 celebrations, the day turned out to be a good one as people gathered to celebrate America's independence and freedoms.
