Oliphant elected

— Gravette School District 20 voters last Tuesday elected Jay Oliphant of Gravette to a five-year term on the Gravette School Board in the annual school election.

Oliphant polled 190 votes to defeat fellow Gravettian Jheri Roberts, who received121 votes. Jack Skillett of Bella Vista, who was unopposed for re-election, will return to the board for his third five-year term.

Vote totals for the four polling sites, Gravette, Sulphur Springs, Bella Vista and Hiwasse, will not be available until they are certified by the Benton County Election Commission this Friday.

Since no change in the millage rate was sought, the district’s low 37.2 mills will continue unchanged.

Oliphant replaces board member Jim Hendren, who did not seek re-election.

The board traditionally reorganizes and elects new officers at its first meeting following the election. Dan Yates is current chair of the body.
