Decatur girls dress up for colors day and then play ball and win

— The Lady Bulldogs beat the Hartford Hustlers 39-22 during Friday’s Colors Day game.

“They did exactly what they needed to do to win. They’ve shown a lot of improvement and the fun part is they’re working really hard,” said Decaturgirls' coach Bill Niven.

The team was ahead 34-8 at the end of the third quarter, allowing Niven to put several players in the game who hadn’t got to spend very much time on the court, he said.

Sarah Harris led the scoring for the Bulldogs with 12 points, followed by Hannah Ramsey with 8 points, but everybody contributed to the win, Niven said. The team did a good job of protecting the ball and playing defensively, he said.

Niven said the girls have improved through a lot of hard work this season.

“If they continue to improve over the summer and next year, they will be a whole lot further along next year,” he said.
